Gifted with Sikhi

Right where do i start lol erm my mind is running with so many things its 11:03pm and i feel like i have to just let it all out on this blog, okay let me tell you a few things about myself and what made me get into Sikhi and what made me realise who i really am deep down.
Well my name is Ajaipal Singh I'm 18yrs old, i live in East London and i'm currently studying to become an Electrician, i was brought up in a punjabi community where there wasnt hardly any Gursikhs (Amritdhari) Sikhs who would give inspiration, when i mean Gursikhs i mean Sikhs who actully follow Guru Ji's Rehat and are devotees filled with nothing but pyar and who are strongly committed towards Sikhi.
Well growing up wasn't easy, coming from a non-religious family and being brought up in an area where there was no inspiration what so ever, i didnt really have a clue about Sikhi and what it was all about. We didnt use to go to the Gurdwara often, mum put the paath on every morning and evening, so i guess that was like a boost in a way to what made me have the love for Sikhi and realise who i really am.
When i was little i was a mona, my dad had kesh and my 2 elder brothers had kesh when they were very young, but was cut of at a later stage when they were getting teased at school and all.
After my senior school days were over in 2005 i started to get into Sikhi a little bit more, i met a few Sikh friends over the net and we started to go to Nagar Kirtan's and other Sikh events, since then Sikhi had a major impact on me and i think that was when it all started to take an effect, from growning my kesh to reading up on Sikh history to visiting the Gurdwara when i could and to listening to the paath more often etc. I was in tears when i first read up on what Sikhs had sacrificed in the past for us, the likes of Guru Arjan Dev Ji the (5th Sikh Guru) who was put on a hot plate with hot sand being poured all over him for not accepted another religion, the likes of Bhai Mati Das who got sawn in half, Bhai Sati Das who got wrapped in cotton and was set alight, Bhai Mani Singh who got cut limb by limb, Guru Tegh Bahadur Ji (the 9th Guru) who was beheaded, the list is endless... that is just a few to mention, so much Kurbani i just feel so blessed that i am on such a path where innocent people have given up their lives for freedom.
Sikhi is truely amazing, people just don't know what they have, todays youth just want to blend in with society and please others and be something their NOT, its all to do with the lack of education (knowledge is power) thats the key to success and without that how are we supposed to get more Sikh youth into Sikhi if we aren't educating them enough. This is what needs to be done because what the Sikh panth faces today is becoming a serious problem which needs to be solved, Just look at what is happening around us our sisters being converted, more Sikhs getting into the punjabi community rather visiting the Gurdwara, listening to bani, doing Sewa, i think we all need to wake up and stop being up our own backsides, start getting the youth involved in the panth, making an effort to get more sangat and not always thinking about ourselves but thinking about our future Generation of Sikhs.

Hi Bhaji, Just wanted to say that it is amazing how u realised and got into sikhi at such a young age. U sound truely in love with the Guru and may he do kirpa on u that u stay feeling that way. I know what u mean about youth today, im 18 and iv been brought up in a amritdhari family but iv seen so many of my friends, n just locals from my gurdwara as soon as they hit 16+ sikhi goes straight out the window...n it is frustrating to see cauz i mean theres only so much u can try with people. But it is inspiring seeing more and more people from non-sikhi backrounds finding the right path. Take care. WJKK WJKF
